Grant Description

Science from Scientists’ (SfS) mission is to improve the aptitudes and attitudes of elementary and middle school students using its In-School Module-Based (ISMB) Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) enrichment program, which is currently serving over 8,300 students in 60 schools in Massachusetts, California, and Minnesota. With these grant funds, SfS would be able to bring the ISMB program to a new partner school in rural Minnesota, Ogema Elementary School in Waubun, for the 2018-2019 academic year. The main elements of the program are as follows: (1) sending the same two real, charismatic scientists into 3rd through 8th grade classrooms, during school, every other week for the entire academic year (~18 visits) to teach hands-on, engaging STEM lessons aligned national and state academic frameworks; and (2) measuring the success of our ISMB program by tracking student scores on state science assessments, administering pre- and post-lesson quizzes, and collecting semiannual teacher and student surveys.
