Grant Description

The goal of this project is to produce authentic human dopamine neurons that can be used for cell transplantation therapy for patients with Parkinson's disease.  Current approaches exposes stem cells to very few of the inductive cues needed to produce completely programmed dopamine neurons and therefore they do not form connections with appropriate targets in the brain after transplantation for full functional restoration.  Our production process exposes stem cells to all of the inductive cues that occur during development to make them genuine dopamine neurons.
